Hello, world! In December 2012 I had the great fortune to attend an intensive introductory Python class, and in word — AWESOME.
While talking about it with my colleagues T. and C. at work, the idea slipped from my mouth, something like “hey, I should do a little python coding every day and blog about it!”
And here we are with this blog. Yes, I admit, the blog title is ambitious, and perhaps even a bit cocky (for a total beginner to claim this.) However, please consider it not at all a claim, but rather, an aspiration.
There’s a quote that comes to mind… (thank you Google and Wikiquote/Wikisource):
Ah, but a man’s reach should exceed his grasp,
or what’s a heaven for?
(by Robert Browning, from his poem ANDREA DEL SARTO (CALLED “THE FAULTLESS PAINTER”), Publication Date: 1855.)
So what does “pythonic” mean? Here’s a couple of articles that are quickly googled:
And more from the Wikipedia article on python,
A common neologism in the Python community is pythonic, which can have a wide range of meanings related to program style. To say that code is pythonic is to say that it uses Python idioms well, that it is natural or shows fluency in the language, that it conforms with Python’s minimalist philosophy and emphasis on readability. In contrast, code that is difficult to understand or reads like a rough transcription from another programming language is called unpythonic.
And my feeling about it — it’s (python) code that’s overall both excellent and elegant. A good thing to strive for, yes?
So there ya go. 2013 should be a fun year!
